St Hilda’s announces the birth of “The St Hilda’s Youth Singers”. St Hilda’s Church has continued to maintain a traditional Anglican Church choir at a time when so many churches have no choir. The main choir continues to sings items from various periods and styles and has recently been pleased to welcome three boys and a girl as members after a gap of several years with only adult members. The main choir is, however, not the only opportunity for singers. The Junior Church has always encouraged the children to sing and often sings items at the main church services. Junior Church members also form a Junior Choir which rehearses for a short while after the Sunday morning service under the direction of Peter Pritchard the Organist and Choirmaster, with the help of Janet Husband on the piano. The juniors supplement members of the main choir at weddings and sings at the monthly Family Services. Peter Pritchard has announced that St Hilda’s has now formed “The St Hilda’s Youth Singers” for youngsters of secondary school age. Practices will take place on Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm until 8pm in the Choir Vestry under the direction of Paula Gething. The repertoire will include modern worship songs as well as traditional church music and practices will include vocal exercises and guidance to help members make the best of their voices. Members will also have the opportunity to work towards their Royal School of Church Music Awards as they develop their commitment. This group will join with the main choir for Festivals and will have opportunities from time to time to sing as a group at other services. You can find out more by ringing Paula on 01784 229 787.
